What's the Deal with this Keto Life

Is it worth it? Do I really get to eat all the bacon I want? Yes...& Fuck Yes I do!

Now, don't get me wrong, I still have to watch what I'm eating. Too many carbs or proteins will throw my progress off track & then I'll have to reevaluate. Here's the thing though:

My body responds to a ketogenic diet better than it has to anything else I have tried. And trust me, I've tried just about everything. This does NOT mean it will be the same for you. Everyone's body is different & we all process our macros differently depending on a variety of things: hormones, illness, disease, genetics, etc. And you should always consult with your doctor before making any drastic changes to your diet.

Now I want to take a second and discuss the word "diet" for a minute. The majority of people I meet think that the word diet means something you follow to lose weight, because for the last 3 decades primarily it has been used in that context (i.e. I'm going a diet so I can fit in my new bikini this summer). The way you SHOULD be looking at the word diet is by its primary definition.

According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary (2018), diet is defined as "the kinds of food that a person, animal, or community habitually eats." Think "Paleo," "Vegan," & yes, "Keto."

Following a ketogenic diet simply means I eat certain types of foods (and avoid others) habitually...every day...or at least for the most part. I do believe in balance and enjoying all experiences, especially those including food. But I also know when my body feels its best & functions at its prime level. And that is why I introduced therapeutic exogenous ketones into my diet.

By drinking my ketones every day, I get to be a little more lax with how many carbs I am consuming. It still needs to remain under a certain amount, but it's not as strict as it is if I don't drink my ketones.  This process allows me to keep my body in a state of ketosis (see below for info) & utilizing my fat for energy, clarity, and focus. Healthy fats and ketones are the BEST fuel for our brain, and the weight loss I am experiencing is a pretty nice bonus too.

So yes, for ME, living this keto life is totally worth it. Why? Because I feel better than I did at 22. I have more energy to keep up with my kids & run a business. I was able to stop my antidepressants. And I am falling in love with the way my body looks, because I am fueling it properly.

Oh & I really, REALLY love bacon.
